Chief Executive Officer
Mark Hovey is the Chief Executive Officer of the San Diego City Employees’ Retirement System (SDCERS), directing the operational and investment activities of the $6.5 billion enterprise that serves more than 20,600 members. Hovey served as SDCERS’ Chief Financial Officer from 2007-2009.
Prior to joining SDCERS, Hovey served as the Chief Financial Officer for WIS International, based in San Diego. Earlier positions include service with General Mills and Ernst & Young.
In 2009, Hovey earned the government agency CFO of the Year Award from the San Diego Business Journal, which recognizes financial professionals in San Diego for outstanding performance in their roles as public and private financial stewards.
Hovey serves on the Board of Directors for the California Association of Public Retirement Systems, and is the Board Chairman for Volunteers of America Southwest. He is a member of the Corporate Directors Forum, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Financial Executives International.
He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and holds Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant designations.
