SDCERS Recognized for Best Private Equity Program in North America

SDCERS was recognized as one of the most outstanding and innovative Public Plans in North America at the Investor Intelligence Awards ceremony April 22. SDCERS took home the award for best private equity program.

Accomplishments recognized include: building SDCERS’ private equity book, ratcheting down the risk in real estate (11%) and adding infrastructure (3%). The changes have been good news for employees and SDCERS’ three plan sponsors, the City of San Diego, the Airport Authority and the Unified Port District: The plan has delivered solid double-digit returns in four of the five last fiscal years through 2014. The long term target to Private Equity is 10%, increased from an initial allocation of 5% and often cited for its successful cutting edge strategy.

Building upon the successful launch of the Investor Intelligence Network, the Investor Intelligence Awards were created to recognize the most outstanding and innovative corporate and public plan sponsors and endowments and foundations in North America. Investor Intelligence Network showcases and highlights the exceptional work of the award nominees and winners while also providing a private platform for members to participate and engage in stimulating and free-flowing discussions on trending topics and issues.

The Investor Intelligence Awards are the first of their kind to incorporate the nominations of nearly 800 asset allocators, all of whom are members of the prestigious Investor Intelligence Network community. Following a thorough voting process conducted over several months, nominees and winners were selected and honored at an awards ceremony in Beverly Hills, CA.

In 2014, SDCERS’ Private Equity portfolio was honored as the best performer in public pension funds nationwide by Reuters Private Equity Hub.
