OPEN ENROLLMENT 2013-2014: Four Facts You Should Know

Date: May 30, 2013

Open Enrollment is Monday, June 3th - Friday, June 28th. Take a look at these four facts - they’ll help you understand whether or not you need to take action during this year’s Open Enrollment period.

  1.      If you are making changes to your benefits, you must complete your enrollment by 5:00 p.m. Monday, June 28th. You may submit your health insurance enrollment forms via email or fax to SDCERS beginning on Monday, June 3rd. If you are not making changes to your current plan, you do not have to take any action and do not need to submit any forms.
  2.       There are rate changes to all health plans for Fiscal Year 2013-2014. City-sponsored health plan information begins on page 27 of the Health Book sent to all eligible members. For a side-by-side comparison, refer to the fold-out chart located in the middle of the health book following page 26.
  3.     There are no changes to vision and dental plans. Your plan options and the benefits you receive will stay the same in 2013. You do not need to take any action during Open Enrollment for your vision and dental plans.
  4.      To speak to an SDCERS representative in person, join SDCERS’ for the annual Open Enrollment Help Day on Wednesday, June 12th. SDCERS staff, City staff and representatives from City-sponsored health plans will be there to answer questions directly. Members are also encouraged to submit health paperwork at the event. This year, SDCERS has adjusted the format to include a brief presentation by sponsored provider at the conclusion of Help Day. The presentation will be held at 12 p.m. in the Santa Fe Room. Additional information about Help Day is here.
