5 Facts You Should Know About Retiree Health Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment is Monday, June 1 – Tuesday, June 30. Take a look at these five facts - they’ll help you understand whether or not you need to take action during this year’s Open Enrollment period.

1. New Health Enrollment Publication Issued by SDCERS. For the 2015-2016 Open Enrollment period, SDCERS has issued and mailed a Comprehensive Health Enrollment Book, including a comparison chart of each plan. The book is available online here.

2. If you are making changes to your benefits, you must complete your enrollment by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30. You may submit your health insurance enrollment forms via mail, email or fax to SDCERS beginning Monday, June 1. If you are not making changes to your current plan, you do not have to take any action and do not need to submit any forms unless you are enrolled in the Blue Shield/MES vision plan. Enrollment forms are available here.

3. Rate changes to health plans for Fiscal Year 2015-2016. There is an increase in premiums for the 2015-2016 year (with the exception of Kaiser plans). The Comprehensive Health Enrollment Book provides information about health plans and the associated costs. Premium changes can be found on page 7 of the book. You do not need to take any action during Open Enrollment if you are not making changes to your current plan.

4. There are changes to the vision plans. Vision information is on page 45 of the Comprehensive Health Enrollment Book. The VSP Choice Vision Plan is replacing the Blue Shield/MES Vision Plan and you must submit a new enrollment form to enroll in the new plan. You must also disenroll from the Blue Shield/MES Plan. The termination form is available here.

5. To speak to an SDCERS representative in person, join SDCERS for Health Enrollment Help Day on Wednesday, June 17th. SDCERS staff and representatives from health plans will be there to answer questions directly. Members are also encouraged to submit health paperwork at the event. Information about Health Enrollment Help Day is available on the last page of your health enrollment book.
