The San Diego City Employees’ Retirement System (SDCERS) has announced the appointment of Jeannie Posner, Athanasios (Thanasi) Preovolos, K. Denise Thompson and the reappointment of Edward Kitrosser to the Board of Administration. Posner, Preovolos, Thompson and Kitrosser have been appointed by Mayor Bob Filner and confirmed by the City Council to serve four-year terms ending March 31, 2017.
Posner is a CPA and licensed attorney. She has 20 years of accounting and auditing experience in public and private industry, and is the managing partner of Posner Accountancy Group, CPAs. Throughout her career, Posner has focused on developing successful procedures that ensure compliance within an organization. Posner spends most of her time working with small businesses and auditing non profit entities. She is a member of the AICPA and Cal Society of CPAs. She also serves as Treasurer of the Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks, her daughter’s soccer club. Posner will replace previous SDCERS Trustee Mark Oemcke.
Preovolos is an attorney with more than 15 years of experience in estate planning and qualified and non-qualified benefit plans. He is the owner at Preovolos Lewin & Hezlap, ALC where he specializes in asset protection strategies. In addition, Preovolos represents clients with pension plan compliance issues before the Internal Revenue Service. He is a Board Member of the East County YMCA and the Greek Orthodox Youth Folk Dance Festival. Preovolos will replace Trustee V. Wayne Kennedy.
Thompson is a retired audit partner with more than 25 years of public accounting experience in various industries, including consumer markets, biotechnology, technology and early to mid-stage venture-backed funds. Thompson is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is a Board Member of Athena San Diego and Magdelena Ecke YMCA and a previous Board Member of CleanTech San Diego. Thompson will replace Trustee Herb Morgan.
Kitrosser is a retired CPA with more than 40 years of experience in accounting, auditing, tax and consulting services. He was an Audit Partner and the San Diego Office Managing Partner for Moss Adams, LLP, an accounting and consulting firm specializing in account and tax services for public, private and non-profit enterprises until he retired in December 2009. Kitrosser received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Accounting from the Bernard M. Baruch Scott of Business and Public Administration in New York. This will be Kitrosser’s second term on the Board.
The SDCERS Board of Administration meets nine times a year, approximately every six weeks, on Fridays at 8:30 a.m.

SDCERS administers defined benefit plans for the City of San Diego, the San Diego Unified Port District, and the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority and provides service retirement, disability retirement, death and survivor benefits to more than 20,000 members.
