5 Facts You Should Know About Retiree Health Open Enrollment

Date: Jun 13, 2014

Open Enrollment is Monday, June 9 - Thursday, July 3rd. Take a look at these five facts - they’ll help you understand whether or not you need to take action during this year’s Open Enrollment period.
1.    New Health Enrollment Publications Issued by SDCERS. For the 2014-2015 Open Enrollment period, SDCERS has issued and mailed a Condensed Health Enrollment Booklet. A Comprehensive Health Enrollment Book, including a side-by-side comparison chart, is available online here. Using the Condensed Booklet sent to you in the mail, simply determine your health allowance, pick your health plan and determine if you will have an out-of-pocket expense each month.
2.    If you are making changes to your benefits, you must complete your enrollment by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3rd. You may submit your health insurance enrollment forms via email or fax to SDCERS beginning on Monday, June 9. If you are not making changes to your current plan, you do not have to take any action and do not need to submit any forms. Enrollment forms are available here.
3.      Rate changes to health plans for Fiscal Year 2014-2015. There is an increase in premiums for the 2014-2015 year. Both the Condensed and Comprehensive Health Enrollment books provide information about health plans and the associated costs. Premium changes can be found on page 11 of the Condensed Health Enrollment Booklet and page 8 of the Comprehensive Health Enrollment Book. You do not need to take any action during Open Enrollment if you are not making changes to your current plan.
4.   There are no changes to vision and dental plans. Vision and dental information is available in the Condensed Health Enrollment booklet here on page 10 and available in the Comprehensive Health Enrollment book here on page 41. You do not need to take any action during Open Enrollment for your vision and dental plans if you are not making changes to your current plan.
5.    To speak to an SDCERS representative in person, join SDCERS for Health Enrollment Help Day on Wednesday, June 18th. SDCERS staff, City staff and representatives from City-sponsored health plans will be there to answer questions directly. Members are also encouraged to submit health paperwork at the event. Information about Health Enrollment Help Day is available on the last page of your health enrollment book.
