1. If you retired between October 6, 1980 and March 31, 2012:
In addition to the health allowance for use toward City-sponsored plans or as reimbursement for privately held insurance premiums and/or costs, City of San Diego retirees who retired within this timeframe are eligible to be reimbursed for 100% of their Medicare Part B, if enrolled in Medicare. This reimbursement for Medicare Part B is in addition to your monthly retiree health allowance.
2. If you retired prior to October 6 1980:
You are eligible to be reimbursed for Medicare Part B up to your monthly maximum allowance ($100 per month).
IMPORTANT: If your Part B premium increases, you must submit an updated Benefit letter from the Social Security Administration in order to adjust your reimbursement amount.
3. If you retired on or after April 1, 2012:
If you are eligible for Retiree Health Benefits under Option A, B or C, you may use your monthly health allowance to be reimbursed for Medicare Part B. Those eligible for Option A or B will submit request for reimbursement to SDCERS. Those eligible for Option C will request for reimbursement to their Trust.
