City of San Diego - Elected Officers Plan
Elected Officers include members of the San Diego City Council, the City Attorney and the Mayor. Elected Officers initially hired by the City or initially elected to office prior to July 20, 2012 are eligible for Membership in SDCERS and may choose to opt into Membership in the Elected Officer’s Plan. SDCERS must receive a written election within 30 days of taking office. Elected Officers initially hired by the City or initially elected to office after July 19, 2012 are not eligible for membership in SDCERS.
To be eligible for an SDCERS Service Retirement as an Elected Officer you must meet the minimum service credit and age requirements at the time you retire from the City:
- Age 55 with 4 or more years of service credit; or
- 8 or more years of service credit at an age less than 55, with the retirement benefit reduced by 2% for each year and fractional year under 55.
