Disability Retirement

The City of San Diego provides both industrial (work related) and non-industrial (non-work related) disability retirement benefits for eligible General and Safety Members of SDCERS.

While benefit levels vary by plan sponsor, eligibility criteria for disability retirement benefits are the same for all three plans.  Disability retirement benefits are available to members who become permanently incapacitated by bodily injury or illness; are unable to perform their usual job duties; and are required to retire. The Disability Retirement booklet provides details on the distinction between the two types of disability retirement benefits, the application and review process and other important information.
