This Privacy Notice describes SDCERS’ general privacy practices that apply to confidential information we receive and/or maintain.  SDCERS does not sell your information and uses reasonable safeguards to protect your information.  This Privacy Notice is supplemented by the Social Media Disclaimer and Terms of Agreement below.

SDCERS uses and maintains confidential information in accordance with the law and as needed to process benefits.

Every effort has been made to offer the most current information possible, SDCERS does not guarantee that the information on this website is current.

SDCERS is governed by the City of San Diego City Charter, the San Diego Municipal Code, applicable provisions of the Internal Revenue Code, the Plan Documents for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority and the Unified Port District, and various rules and regulations, all of which are complex and subject to change.  If there is a conflict between those governing authorities and the information on this website, the governing authorities will control.

SDCERS is required to protect your privacy and is committed to doing so.  This Privacy Notice is consistent with our effort to build the users' trust and confidence in the Internet by promoting the principles of accountability, transparency, and informed consent.  Notice of any material changes to the Privacy Notice will be provided on SDCERS’ website.

SDCERS’ website contains links to other websites created and maintained by other public and private entities.  SDCERS is not responsible for the material found on any linked site or for the privacy practices of other websites.  We encourage you to read the privacy notices of these linked sites because their privacy notices may differ from ours.

Log Files

SDCERS logs Internet Provider (IP) addresses and user browser types for statistical and system administration purposes only.  These logs are analyzed to determine user interest in the various areas of our site, to identify system performance or problem areas, and to improve the value of the materials available on the website.  We do not link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable. This means that your use of our website will be tracked, but you will remain anonymous.

Cookies

A "cookie" is a small amount of data sent by a website server through the Internet and transferred to your hard drive.  It allows a website to monitor your use of the site, but cannot be executed as code or deliver malware.  Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies, but you can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie so that you can decide whether or not to accept it.  SDCERS does not enable cookies to collect information from users of its website for any purpose.

If you would like to access, correct, or update your personal information, please either log-on and make corrections through the SDCERS Member Portal or contact us at (619) 525-3600.  We encourage you to promptly update your contact information and other personal information.  

Social Media Disclaimer and Terms of Agreement

SDCERS uses Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to enhance communication with its Members, retirees, beneficiaries, and the public.  Participation is voluntary.  We recommend that you do not post personal or confidential information on these sites.  Social media and other third-party sites may collect personally identifiable information. Submitting Confidential OR SENSITIVE Information to SDCERS Via Email

Do not submit confidential information or attachments containing confidential information to SDCERS through email unless they are protected or encrypted.  Furthermore, please note that SDCERS only accepts .pdf email attachments.  SDCERS cannot guarantee the security of the information you transmit over email.  Once received by SDCERS, internal procedures provide for security and confidentiality to reasonably safeguard Member information.
